Migrating Hopville Accounts
May 1st, 2013, by Kyle (Backend Dev)
If you already had a Brewtoad account, but weren’t on Hopville, you’ll continue to log in using your email address and password. It will remain the same.
If you were on both Brewtoad and Hopville, your accounts will be merged. You can continue logging in to Brewtoad using your email address and password. Alternately, you will also be able to use your old Hopville username in place of your email address.
Hopville users who don’t already have Brewtoad accounts will be able to log in to Brewtoad using their old Hopville email address (or username) and password.
A note on security:
Both Hopville and Brewtoad use hashing to keep your password secure. This means that while we can compare the hash of what you enter on the login form to what we have in our database, we can never recover your original plain-text password using this hash. This is why you can reset your password, but not recover it. We don’t know it!
Brewtoad uses bcrypt to hash passwords (which in-turn uses the Blowfish cipher, for which no effective cryptanalysis has been found). When logging in to Brewtoad for the first time using your Hopville username/email and password, your password hash will be automatically updated to use bcrypt.
